Midjourney’s new Style Reference feature let’s you mimic styles from existing images, here’s how that works:
So, here’s how you copy the style from any image
Browse to your favorite inspiration destination, and find something you love or something pleasing to your eye, and try not to focus on the subject, try to focus more on the feeling that it gives you, if you like the feeling, save the visual.
(some of) My favorite websites for creative inspiration have always been Pinterest, Artstation, Behance, Deviantart, Designspiration, Archdaily, Booooooom, Theinspirationgrid, 500px, Dribbble, Lexica, This Works, Colossal, It's Nice That, DesignBoom, Creative Review, The Design Inspiration, Abduzeedo, Ignant, Juxtapoz
Find an image with a visual style that stands out, take a screenshot or save as, and make sure it’s a .JPEG, .PNG or . WEBP, screenshots are usually .PNG by default so that’s the way I personally save visual references.
Drag and drop the image file into your Discord text window, hit Enter.
Right click on the image and go to ‘Copy Link’
Add that link at the end of your prompt after the new
--sref
parameter.
Here’s a basic use case:
a painting of a rabbit inside a pastel pink clamshell --v 6 --sref https://www.juxtapoz.com/media/k2/galleries/72613/RCo1-19022.jpg
Hot Tip: You don’t have to download the image and upload to Discord, when you find an image online, right click on it and go to ‘Save Image Address’, now you’ve copied the direct URL to that image which you can now paste after the --sref parameter in your prompt.
Additionally, the Midjourney explore page is a great place to find inspiration as well, plus, when you expand any image, MJ gives you the option to Copy > Image link, then paste it following the --sref
parameter, and voilà .
More of a prompting technique than a visual style, this issue covers several ways to re-imagine objects, brands, products or characters and how they can effectively cross over into neighboring realms. The best results come from experimenting with neighboring concepts, for example, what if Ferrari made a pickup truck? Or, what if Winnie The Pooh was a Jedi Master? This basic transformation is what we’re looking for as concept for an input prompt, as opposed to something like what if Ferrari made a lightbulb, or what if Winnie The Pooh was a tree — those types of extremely distant concepts can yield strange and unexpected results, which I can admit, are sometimes pretty awesome too.
