Memphis Design emerged in the 1980s as a reaction against the "black box" aesthetic of 1970s Italian design. It drew influences from Art Deco, Pop Art, and 1950s kitsch, creating a unique and instantly recognizable style. Memphis was a significant aesthetic movement, characterized by postmodernist approaches to design. It challenges the "form follows function" principle with its decorative, colorful, and sometimes whimsical style. It's seen across furniture, fabrics, wallpapers, and various types of graphic design.
